Rough and Tumble and a little extra...

Yesterday, us teachers had this lovely thing called, "Minimal Day" where the school hours are shortened and the rest of the day, teachers have an inservice they attend.  It makes for a very long day, a Monday at that. Class from 9-11:30, then again from 12-1:45 then inservice from 2-5.

But! We did talk about interesting things for the most part. Like the importance of "rough and tumble" play. (Think: what puppies do with each other). It is very different than aggression and violent "play".  This kind of play is mutual with all participants where they are showing restraint and awareness of boundaries but also are chasing, running, wrestling, rolling, pretend "fighting" (think Power Rangers...) and when a participant gets accidentally hurt, you will see the offender stop and show empathy in some way. Get my jist?

Anyway, RnT play helps create synapses in the brain, actually molds how the brain is formed and uses many different sensory areas at once.  This also aids in classroom where children are expected to sit and work for a set period of time. Even girls benefit from this kind of play...I could go on on all the benefits. It's interesting that we live in a society and culture that is leaning further and further away from physical play and gravitating more toward non-physical play and education. Did you know it is against some school districts' policies to play Tag?! Dodgeball I can understand but Tag?

Here is an article I came across about this subject.

I know it isn't QUITE about babies, but about little guys, so I count it :)

On another note:
I broke the news to my principal and vice principal yesterday and showed off my strip of u/s pictures :) It's amazing to me though, how many people ask if I know what gender Baby Bee is...
Do I seriously LOOK that pregnant?! (The answer would definitely be NO if you were wondering...I haven't gained any weight at all and not one person can tell). Maybe people don't realize that at 12.5wks and 2.5" long the "dangle" looks identical in both genders. Not until 18+ wks do they have a better guess. Funny people. Maybe they think b/c at 12wks it looks like a human with a head, tummy, toes and fingers, that everything else is as defined and visible...and by then I will have a noticeable 'bump'. 20wks for me is Mid-May in case you were wondering...
I'm soooo excited to approach the 2nd trimester!! I hear this is the BESTEST time, where my appetite, energy, and libido return to normal (or higher!) and the heartburn and nausea will hopefully subside too! And just in case you didn't know...2nd trimester starts at 13wks (ish) not 12wks like you would think :)

ok. that's all. for now.
